Positive lab result alerts

The Positive lab result alert emails the people you chose the moment a lab sample’s result reads as positive. It is the alert that turns a result buried in a list into something a person sees right away.

The email goes out when a sample’s result changes into positive: a result is saved, it matches one of your positive words, and it did not match before. Editing a result that was already positive does not send another email, so you are not alerted twice for the same finding.

The subject line names the sample and your organization, for example Positive result: WQ-0421 (Trout Unlimited), and the email links straight to your lab samples.

You decide. In the alert’s setup there is a field, Result counts as positive if it contains, holding a short list of words. A result counts as positive when its text contains any of them, ignoring case. The default list is:

positive, detected, present

Change it to fit how your lab writes results. For an eDNA assay you might keep detected; for a pathogen panel you might add the pathogen’s name. Keep the words specific enough that an ordinary “not detected” result does not trip the alert.

  1. In Settings, Notifications, check Positive lab result.
  2. Choose the roles and any extra addresses to notify.
  3. In Result counts as positive if it contains, keep the default or enter your own comma-separated words.
  4. Choose Save.

From then on, a positive result in your lab samples emails the people you chose.
