Getting started

CensusIO is the system of record for fish and wildlife survey data: data gets in by import or direct collection, and the value is what happens next, validation, review, analysis, reporting, and a permanent archive.

Every survey type (an electrofishing run, a gillnet set, a disease sampling event) has its own records table. Records arrive by hand entry, file import, or field collection, and each one moves through a review workflow before it becomes official.

The records table for a survey type A toolbar with an Enter data button and an Import button, above a table of records showing a status column with approved and in-review pills, species, length, and date. Three numbered markers point at the Import button, the Status column header, and a record row. Every survey type has a records table. The toolbar adds and imports records; the status column tracks each record through review.
  1. Import brings records in from a file (CSV, Excel, or dBASE), mapping your columns to the survey type’s fields.
  2. The Status column shows where each record sits in review: draft, in review, or approved. Only approved records count as official and can be published.
  3. Select a row to open the record, edit it, or move it along the review workflow.
  1. Create your workspace: sign in and set up your organization.
  2. Build your first survey type: define the fields you collect.
  3. Enter data: add records by hand, one at a time or rapid-fire.
  4. Import data from a file: bring in a spreadsheet or a shapefile table.
