Recording a result

The result is the point of the whole exercise. You record it on the sample, in a free-text field labeled Result (for example, detected, not detected, or a value).

Record a result

1. Find the sample in the Lab samples list.
2. Type the result into the Result field on the sample.
3. Record the confirmed Species and Total count, and attach a Photo if you have one.
4. Save. (Marking the sample Completed at the same time keeps the status and the result in step.)

The result is free text on purpose: labs report in different ways, from a plain “not detected” to a concentration with units. Write it the way the lab reported it.

When a result triggers an alert

If your organization has turned on the Positive lab result alert, saving a result that reads as positive emails the people you chose. The alert fires when the result first becomes positive, not every time you edit it. What counts as positive is a list of words you control, so a result like “detected” can mean positive while “not detected” does not, as long as your words are chosen with care.

The alert is set up once, in Settings

You do not arrange the email here. An admin sets up the alert once, in Settings, and from then on any positive result you record here can send it. See positive lab result alerts.
